Submission Checklist

Journal of Architectural and Planning Research (JAPR)

1. General manuscript requirements

  • The manuscript is written in clear, professional English and is suitable for a broad interdisciplinary readership.

  • Recommended length is 2,000–6,000 words (unless otherwise agreed with the editor).

  • The manuscript is prepared in a word-processing program (e.g., Microsoft Word) or an equivalent standard format.

  • The file is saved as .doc, .docx, or .rtf.

  • The text is double spaced and formatted for A4 or 8.5″ × 11″ page size.

  • The manuscript is written in the third person (except where a specific article type permits otherwise).

2. First and second pages

First page (title page) includes:

  • A brief, descriptive title that reflects the paper’s content.

  • Full author names for all authors.

  • Each author’s affiliation(s) (department, institution, city, country) and position/title (if applicable).

  • Email address(es) (at minimum, the corresponding author’s email).

  • Full postal address for the corresponding author.

  • A running title of no more than 45 characters (including spaces).

Second page includes:

  • The full title of the paper.

  • An abstract of approximately 200 words summarizing purpose, approach/methods, key results or arguments, contribution, and practical implications.

3. Structure of the paper

  • The manuscript follows a logical structure. A typical research paper includes:

    • Introduction

    • Background / literature context

    • Methods / procedure

    • Results

    • Discussion (if applicable)

    • Conclusions

    • Implications for practice and/or future research

    • References

    • Acknowledgements (optional)

    • Brief author biographical note (if required by the journal)

  • Any non-personal funding or institutional support is clearly stated in the acknowledgements.

  • All figures and tables are referenced in the text in the order they appear.

4. References and citations (APA, numbered)

  • References follow APA style and are numbered in the order they appear in the manuscript (numeric in-text citations).

  • Every in-text citation number matches a full entry in the reference list.

  • The reference list is ordered numerically (not alphabetically).

  • Each reference entry includes complete APA bibliographic details, as applicable:

    • author(s)

    • year

    • title

    • journal/book title

    • volume(issue)

    • page range

    • publisher (for books)

    • DOI (preferred) or stable URL (if available)

  • Page numbers are provided for all direct quotations where quotations are used.

5. Figures (images, drawings, diagrams, maps, charts)

  • Figures are necessary, clearly labeled, and cited in the text in numerical order (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.).

  • Each figure has a brief, descriptive caption.

  • Figures remain legible at journal page size (approximately 5.25″ × 8.25″).

  • Figure files are provided in standard digital formats such as JPG, PNG, TIFF, or PDF, with sufficient resolution for publication.

Permissions and copyright

  • Written permission has been obtained for any figure/photo/image owned by someone other than the author(s), when required.

  • Appropriate credit lines are included for third-party material.

6. Tables

  • Tables are included in the manuscript file or supplied as separate editable files (Word format preferred).

  • Each table has a brief caption and is cited in the text in numerical order (Table 1, Table 2, etc.).

  • Tables are formatted to remain readable at journal page size (approximately 5.25″ × 8.25″).

7. Submission and originality

  • The manuscript (and any separate figure/table files) is submitted by email to:

  • The work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under review elsewhere. Only original submissions will be considered for publication in JAPR.
