Locke Science Publisher

Locke Science Publisher is committed to open scholarship and clear rights for authors and readers. All journals published by Locke Science Publisher follow a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licensing policy unless a specific journal page explicitly states an exception.

1. Copyright ownership

Authors retain full copyright in their work. This means:

  • authors remain the legal copyright holders of the article text and any original figures, tables, and other original content created by the authors

  • publication with Locke Science Publisher does not transfer copyright ownership to the publisher

2. Publishing license granted to Locke Science Publisher

By submitting a manuscript and, if accepted, publishing with a Locke Science Publisher journal, authors grant Locke Science Publisher a non-exclusive license to:

  • publish the article in the journal (as the version of record)

  • distribute the article in all formats (including online and PDF)

  • archive and preserve the article for the long term

  • create and distribute article metadata (e.g., title, author names, affiliations, abstract, keywords, publication dates, identifiers) for indexing and discovery

  • identify the journal as the original place of publication and maintain the publication record

Because this license is non-exclusive, authors remain free to reuse their own work in lawful ways (for example, in theses, teaching materials, institutional repositories, or future works), provided appropriate citation to the published version is included.

3. Creative Commons license applied to published articles (CC BY 4.0)

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Under CC BY 4.0, anyone may:

  • copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format

  • remix, transform, and build upon the material

  • use the material for commercial and non-commercial purposes

These permissions are granted provided that users comply with the CC BY 4.0 requirements (see Section 4 below).

4. Attribution requirements (what users must do)

Reusers must give appropriate credit, which typically includes:

  • the author(s) name(s)

  • the article title

  • the journal name and publication details

  • a link to the published article (where available)

  • a link to the CC BY 4.0 license

  • an indication of whether changes were made (for example, “adapted from…” or “modified from…”)

Attribution must not suggest that the author(s) or Locke Science Publisher endorses the reuse.

5. Adaptations, translations, and derivative works

CC BY 4.0 permits adaptations, including translations and other derivative works. When creating an adaptation, reusers must:

  • credit the original author(s) and the journal

  • indicate clearly that the work has been adapted/translated/modified

  • not imply endorsement by the original author(s) or the publisher

6. Third-party content and permissions

Authors are responsible for ensuring they have the right to include any third-party content in their manuscripts (for example, copyrighted images, figures, maps, long text extracts, proprietary datasets, or photographs).

Important notes:

  • third-party material may not be covered by the article’s CC BY 4.0 license unless explicitly stated

  • where permissions are required, authors must obtain them before publication and provide appropriate credit lines

  • if a figure, image, or dataset has its own license or restrictions, those must be clearly indicated in the caption or credit line

7. Author self-archiving and sharing

Because articles are published under CC BY 4.0 and authors retain copyright, authors may share the published version widely, including:

  • posting on personal websites and institutional repositories

  • sharing with colleagues and students

  • depositing in subject repositories where permitted

  • using in teaching, presentations, and future scholarly works with appropriate citation

8. Why we use CC BY 4.0

This open licensing model supports broad dissemination and reuse of scholarship, improving visibility, accessibility, and impact, while ensuring that authors remain the legal copyright holders and receive clear attribution for their work.
